The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Collaboration on Public Health in Mekong Sub-regional area in 2012

Kunming Medical University, China, hosted the 2012 conference, with sponsorship from the China Medical Board- USA. In line with its aim of sharing the results of high quality research in public health, the ICCCHR participated in the event with two reports, one poster presentation and an exhibition booth to introduce the prominent activities of the centre and to create opportunities for international collaborative research with other organizations and universities. Leading the delegation were research directors Prof. Michael Dunne and Assoc. Prof. Vo Van Thang, along with Dr. Doan Vuong Diem Khanh (senior researcher) and Nguyen Thu Thuy (administration officer).
A day before and two days during the conference, the leaders of the Faculties of Public Health and Prof. Michael Dunne took part in many assemblies to develop the Kunming declaration, which was  issued by Prof. Wongsa Laohasiriwong at the closing ceremony of the conference. The declaration mentioned the role of the 14 universities and Faculties of Public Health in the six nations of the  Greater Mekong Sub-region in the context of building and developing a strong public health academic network. The meeting  resulted in an agreement that the Public Health Faculties of Khonkaen University (Thailand) and Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy will chair a management committee over the next four years with the  purpose of concentrating on training collaboration, research and policy advocacy in the public health area. The Public Health University of Myanmar was assigned to hold the fifth international conference in the capital of Rangoon some time in the period of June to September, 2013, with the China Medical Board continuing its commitment to sponsoring the conferernce.
