The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Thua Thien Hue provincial Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health and the Institute for Community Health Research of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, will host a scientific conference on Public Health.  (updating...)

Understanding causes of childhood injury in Dak Lak

Accident injuries have been the highest cause of death among children under the age of 16 in the world as well as in Vietnam.

A  cross-sectional  study  was  conducted  among a total  of 2,273  households  (which  included 4,505 children  aged  under  16)  in  8  communes of Buon  Ma  Thuot  city,  Daklak  province.  The  aims  of  this study  were to examine  the  prevalence  and  characteristics  of accident injuries  among children  under the  age  of 16 and to identify  the first  aid  situation as well as treatment outcomes for these accidents injures.

The result showed that the prevalence of accident injuries was 7.8%. The overall rate of accident  injuries was 7,523/100,000. Overall proportion  of  households  having  accident  injuries which occurred among children  aged  under  16 years old was 14.9%; This rate was  higher among males  than that among females  (9,126/100,000 vs. 5,818/100,000), and among the Minority groups  than among the Kinh group (10,091/100,000 vs. 6,061/100,000).

 

The prevalence of injuries by age groups

Falling and traffic accident were the most common causes of accident injuries in this study (43.6% and 23.2% respectively ); 23.8% of injuries did not receive any first aid. The most common transport methods were by motorbikes (92.1%), only 0.4% of injury cases were transferred by ambulance cars.  The common places of first aids were private hospitals; public hospitals, commune health centers (45.5%; 21.9% and 11.9% respectively). Most of the children came to health facilities after the occurrence of accidents within 1 hour or less (64.5%). Inpatient hospital treatment accounted for 23.9%, of which 91.5% received internal medicine treatment and 8.2% received surgical method (8.2%). Community participation (Local authority leader group discussion)

Implementing commitment of ICHR, Hue UMP regarding  providing more scientific evidence in health management for the partner provinces, an intervention program for reducing injury risks have been operated in several communes in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak Province. The project will be carried out within 2 years between 2015 and 2016.
