The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Thua Thien Hue provincial Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health and the Institute for Community Health Research of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, will host a scientific conference on Public Health.  (updating...)

“Hue Healthy Adolescent Cohort Study: Promotion of healthy vision and prevention of non-communicable diseases”

The Institute for Community Health Research, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in collaboration with Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), Japan conducted the study of “Hue Healthy Adolescent Cohort Study: Promotion of healthy vision and prevention of non-communicable diseases”. The objectives of the research are to determine the prevalence of refractive errors among the adolescents and its risk factors in Hue city; to examine the risk factor of non-communicable diseases (overweight/obesity) and associated factors; and to investigate the effect of healthy lifestyle in prevention of refractive errors (in particular, myopia) and overweight/obesity in adolescents during the followed-up period.

 

The project has been planned since October 2017, Prof. Keiko Nakamura and Mrs. Nguyen Hoang Thuy Linh (PhD student) from TMDU had a meeting with representatives of the 5 secondary schools selected to participate in the study in Hue, thereby agreeing on a commitment to support research as well as intended time for data collection at each school. The study was also submitted to the Ethics Committee in Biomedical Research of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and has been approved by the chair board.

 

 

The Cooperative research between the two universities will be conducted over a 3-year period (cohorts study) with two stages: Stage I is deployed as planned from December 2017 to February 2018, the students in 6th grade was checked up by doctors specializing in ophthalmology of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, including eye exams (optometry by tables, automatic refractometer measurements and eye ultrasound), weight and height measuring as well as answering questionnaires about daily habits of learning,  food and activities, etc .. through interviews. In parallel with the investigation and screening of students, Dr. Kaoruko Seino and assistant from TMDU performed measurements of school environmental health indicators such as lighting level, table height or window size in the daily learning environment of the student in order to find the relevance between indicators and the school health of students.

 

 

Stage II will be continued from December 2020 to February 2021 for tracking the student health.
