On the 6th of November, 2012, the Rector Board of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Hue UMP) welcomed Professor Terence Walsh, Dean of the School of Biomedical Science, Faculty of Health, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia.

The aim of this visit was to explore the possibility for cooperation between Hue UMP and QUT in the field of biomedicine and molecular biology. QUT’s School of Biomedical Science is planning a collaborative program for the exchange of lecturers and students between the two institutions.

After meeting with the Rector Board, Professor Walsh met with leaders from the departments of Genetics, Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology – Pathophysiology, Haematology, Physiology and Biochemistry. The departments shared information about their teaching curricula and Prof. Walsh said he would like to develop a greater understanding of and cooperation with the Parasitology Department in particular. He expects to send students and lecturers to complete placements at the department.

After the meeting, Prof Walsh visited laboratories in the Institute of Biomedicine, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pathology and Histology at Hue University Hospital.

In the afternoon, he provided a brief introduction of QUT’s School of Biomedical Science, and discussed opportunities for learning that exist for lecturers, postgraduate students and undergraduate students in terms of medical techniques.

The following day, he visited the Public Health Faculty and worked with Dean Prof. Vo Van Thang on planning future co-operative activities  between the two institutions, such as support from the School of Biomedical Science for  teaching of laboratory techniques related to environmental health and nutrition.
