Upcoming Events

The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Thua Thien Hue provincial Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health and the Institute for Community Health Research of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, will host a scientific conference on Public Health.  (updating...)

Staffs of ICHR, HUMP participated in ERASMUS scholar exchange program at Vrije University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

 

Within the framework of an inter-organizational agreement signed between the Free University of Amsterdam (VU) and HUMP, staffs of ICHR visited Athena Institute of Life Science Innovation and Communication, Vrije University (VU) from November 15th to November 28th, 2019. The purposes of the trip were to (1) share approaches to One Health, (2) build up a curriculum of One Health teaching among universities, (3) discuss plan of data collection for implementation of the nutrition and agriculture-based intervention (NSA project) in Nong district, Savannakhet province, Laos and Dong Xuan district, Phu Yen province, Vietnam and (4) support VU PhD candidates in data analysis.

In the first working day, Assoc Prof Vo Van Thang introduced One Health approach and overview of global One Health to PhD candidates and students of Global Health at VU. The lectures consisted of concepts, aspects of One Health approach and necessary skills such as administration, leadership, collaboration as well as experiences in One Health application, curriculum building and teaching for Public Health students of HUMP and veterinary students of Hue College of Agriculture and Forestry. Next, Dr Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan lectured on the study circumstances related to animal-to-human transmitted diseases in Vietnam, addressing the collaboration between Health and Veterinary administrators in the prevention and treatment of diseases following One Health approach. The discussion led to an ideal of building a One Health oriented curriculum for students of Health and Agriculture among the countries in the next period.

ICHR staffs and experts and members of NSA project (from the Medical Committee of Netherland-Vietnam, MCNV) discussed in details tools and plan of data collection (quantitative and qualitative data) in Nong district, Savannakhet province, Laos and Dong Xuan district, Phu Yen province, Vietnam in 2020. During the discussion, solutions were proposed to overcome difficulties of the previous surveys and to assure the accuracy and reliability of the upcoming surveys.

We also visited National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) and worked on One Health. In this meeting, experts of RIVM briefly introduced the Institute and One Health related activities such as One Health in the monitoring of food originated germs, One Health approach in antibiotic resistance and improvement of risk assessment for organism originated germs by data integration. Solutions recommended by experts were via multidisciplinary and multinational collaboration and information sharing in Europe.

 ICHR staffs also discussed the plan of building up One Health-oriented curriculum, addressing subjects of teaching and involving institutions. In addition, the group participated in the inauguration of Erasmus scholarship in 2020. Finally, ICHR staffs spent time with VU PhD candidates to support them in data analysis, an activity included in the NSA project in Laos and Vietnam.
