Research consultancy work conducted by ICCCHR at Thu Duc District Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (1/3/2013)

Accepting the invitation of Dr. Nguyen Minh Quan, Director of Thu Duc District Hospital, Prof. Michael Dunne and Assoc. Prof. Vo Van Thang, travelled to Ho Chi Minh City as research consultants on March 1, 2013. The two directors of ICCHR, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, observed nine presentations of research proposals provided by the district hospital‘s doctors, medical technicians and nurses.

Each proposal received valuable comments in terms of its research methodology in order to ensure its feasibility, scientific basis and practicality. The proposals are part of the hospital’s objective to increase the quality of its health care. More than 3000 patients come to it every day for assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

In the summation section of the day’s events, Prof. Michael Dunne, on behalf of ICCCHR, summarized the good points as well as limitations of each proposal. He also presented the view that further cooperation and consultancy could contribute to the enhancement of the research capacity of the hospital staff in the future, if there is local demand for that. Asst. Prof. Vo Van Thang thanked the hospital director for his invitation and said he hoped that the collaborative research relationships between the  hospital and ICCCHR would be further strengthened and developed.
The hospital director, on behalf of all staff,  thanked the ICCCHR staff for their consultancy work and expressed his determination to establish the hospital as a high quality institution for patient examination and health care. He said its development would rely on evidence-based medicine in order to meet the increasing health care needs of more than 500,000 local people and those living in neighboring areas.
