The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Thua Thien Hue provincial Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health and the Institute for Community Health Research of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, will host a scientific conference on Public Health.  (updating...)

ICHR Training course on “writing proposal for community health research proposal” - Thua Thien Hue

During 4 days from 9-12 June, 2015, the Institute for Community Health Research (ICHR) has organised the second training course on “Writing research proposal for community health research’ for health staff of intervention provinces. The course was hold at the Faculty of public health of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Participants of the course included 24 persons who were working in health facilities belonged to Da nang and Thua Thien Hue Health Department. Group of participants coming from Thua thien Hue province were the health staff working at 6 district health centres, 2 health centres of district-level towns, Hue city health centre, and Health Department of Thua thien Hue province.

Participants coming from Da Nang city included the ones who were working at the Health Department of  Da nang city, centre for HIV/AIDs prevention and control,  centre for health education and communication, centre for health staff training, hospital of traditional medicine, preventive medicine centre, centre of  demography and family planning, hospital of tuberculosis and lung diseases. Most of participants have had some experience in doing research as well as having the needs and expectation for continuing doing more research in the future.

During the 4 working days, all lecturers and participants were very active in sharing very practical issues in writing community health research. Apart from giving theory lectures, questions regarding theory as well as practice in writing and implementing research also have been discussed and answered. The training course also spent many of the time for participants to work in teams, discuss together and writing their own research proposals. During the last working day, 4 research proposals have been completed and presented and they were discussed and commented by the Institute’s lecturers for improving their quality.

It is possible to tell that the course has been carried out successfully and brought useful benefits to participants. Comparing the results of MCQs test prior to and after the course, we found that mean score of participants' marks increased from 10.0/23 to 15.1/23. The proportion of participants who answered correctly 50% or more of the questions increased from 33.0% to 86.4%. Contents of all topics of the lectures given were evaluated by 95% of participants as very useful and very relevant to their own works. Professional capacity as well as their methodology of teaching was also highly appreciated by participants. 100% of participants were satisfied with the course’s organisation as well as capacity and method of teaching of the lecturers. Among which, 95% evaluated excellent level of professional experience and training methodology of lecturers and 90% considered the organisation was very good. 

 

After the training course had ended, most of participants expressed their wish to participate other training course on research methodology conducted by the ICRH in the future. In particular, training course on using statistical tests in data analysis for doing community health research was the most frequently mentioned topic by participants
