“Public Health Challenges in the 21st Century” ​

In order to widen the scientific research themes and strengthen international and national relationships of young researchers and students with other Faculty of Public Health among Southeast Asian countries, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy will host The Second Scientific Conference of Young Researchers in April 2018.

The theme of the 9th ICPH-GMS (2017), Yangon is “Adopting Healthy Lifestyle: Combating Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs)”. NCDs are the leading causes of death in the GMS countries at present and they create enormous health burden with serious socioeconomic implications.

ICHR in collaboration with Thua Thien Hue Preventive Medicine center and Phu Vang district Health Center conducted data collection.

From July to August 2016, the Institute for Community Health Research in collaboration with Thua Thien Hue Preventive Medicine center and Phu Vang district Health Center conducted data collection for the research "The prevalence of selected risk factors of non-communicable diseases among resident in Phu Vang district - Thua Thien Hue province in 2016". This study aimed to find out the prevalence of selected risk factors of non-communicable diseases among people of Phu Vang district - Thua Thien Hue province, including: tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, overweight/ obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia. There was nearly 1000 people aged from 25 to 64 participated in this study. They were from six communes of Phu Vang district, including Phu Da, Phu Ho, Phu Mau, Phu Thanh, Vinh Thanh and Phu Hai. Participants were interviewed whether they had behavioral or biological risk factors of non-communicable diseases.

Findings of this study will provide the information regarding the main risk factors of non-communicable diseases, thereby contributing to orient policy makers about the preventive measures, in order to reduce the rate of NCDs in Phu Vang district in particular and Thua Thien Hue province in general.
