Call for Proposals: Seed funding for Ecohealth researchINTRODUCTION
“Ecosystem approach to health” (or Ecohealth) is a growing international field of practice, education, and research to tackle a great challenge of international development in improving people’s health, while promoting prosperous & resilient community and environmental sustainability. Ecohealth has been promoted for a relatively long time in many parts of the world; however it has only been more recently introduced in Southeast Asia. Hence, the needs of developing the competent future leaders in Southeast Asia, who will be able to facilitate the further implementation of Ecohealth approach are have to be fulfilled. The Center for Public Health and Ecosystem Research (CENPHER), Hanoi School of Public Health (HSPH) is implementing the program entitled “Field Buidling Leadership Initiative in Vietnam (FBLI): Advancing Ecohealth in South-East Asia” funded by the International Development and Research (IDRC), Canada from 2012 to 2016 . The purpose of the research program is to develop Ecohealth major based on research, training and intergration with operational policy and network connection to solve human health problem associated with agricultural intensification in Vietnam. The FBLI’s research in Vietnam hasapplied Ecohealth approach to study the health and environmental impacts of improper animal waste management in intensified agriculture systems and offers solutions to solve this issue. In May 2014, in the framework of the FBLI, the Global Health True Leaders Training was organized to provide potential Ecohealth future leaders with neccesary knowledge and skills on leadership and public health. We now invite young researchers to apply for the small grants titled “Ecohealth approach to better tackle the issue of health risks related to agricultural intensification” Objectives of the grants: • To facilitate young researchers to learn and apply Ecohealth approach in research on health risks related to agricultural intensification in Vietnam. • To improve the research capacity on Ecohealth of key individuals (Ecohealth True Leaders) in different institutions in Vietnam.
